みなさん、ふたたび、こんにちは。 Hello everybody,
道路計画から下北沢を守ろうと活動している“Save the 下北
沢”というグループが、昨年、カフェ・ピエロで、２つの大
きなイベントを行いました。世田谷区はこれまで市民の声に
耳を傾けてきませんでしたし、必要な情報すら与えてきませ
んでした。世田谷区はいまだに、下北沢の北口側の大部分を
つぶし、膨大な税金を使って不必要な道路を造ろうという計
画を変えていません。この計画は完成するまでに１０年以上
かかり、小田急線の地下化工事ですでに騒々しくなっている
街を、さらにひどい状態にしてしまいます。
きたる１８日（水）に、“Save the 下北沢”と、彼らを応援
する人たちが集まり、下北沢から区役所までの数キロを、楽
しくパレードすることになりました。パレードは、一時間も
かからないと思います。
目的は、世田谷区長に、街の人たちはこの道路を望んでいな
い、ということをはっきりと伝えることです。また、いった
いこの道路計画にいくらの税金が掛かるの？ といった、これ
までずっと質問し続けてきたもののまだ回答のないことにつ
いて、答えてもらうことも目的です。
すでに４５０のお店のオーナーたちが、この道路計画の見直
しを求める要望書にサインしています。お店のオーナーたち
は、無駄な道路をつくるのに使うお金があったら、少しでい
いから、緑を植えたりして、街をきれいにすることにお金を
使ってほしいと考えるのは当然です。
このパレードを平日にやらないといけないのは、区長とお役
人たちが週末はお休みだからです。みなさんのなかでその日
に時間をとれる方がいらしたら、ぜひパレードに参加してい
ただけると、とても助かります。ミュージシャンやその他の
パフォーマーの方々も、大歓迎です。ぜひパレードに参加し
て、区役所までの道のりを盛り上げてください。
１時半からライブハウス「シェルター」で記者会見を行います。
その後、２時半からパレードは出発します。
５時には終わると思いますが、区長が要望書を受け取りにで
てきてくれなかったりすると、数時間長引くかもしれません。

Last summer the group of citizens wanting to save the Shimo-Kitazawa area held two big events at Pierrot Cafe. The city of Setagaya-ku has not been listening to them and has not even been giving relevant information. It still intends to smash a huge portion of the area on the north side of the station in order to make a costly and unnecessary road. This project will take several years to complete and will add much to the mess already caused by the digging of the underground tunnel for the train line.
This coming Wednesday the 18th the group and their supporters will be joyfully parading the streets of Shimo-Kitazawa right up to the ward office a few kilometers away. The walk should take less than an hour. The goal is to get the mayor to know, loud and clear, about the opposition. It is also to request some long awaited explanations such as the cost of the project still unbelievably kept secret.
Already 450 shops owners have signed a petition demanding cancelation of the project. They understandably prefer to have some tax money spent to beautify the area.
The parade has to be on a weekday because the mayor and his bureaucrats don't work on weekends. It would be of much help if those of you not working can come along. Musicians and other performers are welcomed to ''genki up'' the walk and the ward office.
Meeting point is at 2: 30 p.m. in front of Shelter Live House.
The party should be over at 5 p.m. but could last a few more hours if the mayor forgets to show up.
